Okay, okay...
A couple days later, and maybe I get it.
You're the Dolphins' GM.
Season's over and you've got a receiver who's contract is up. Guy made 67 catches for just under 700 yards. Returned 48 kickoffs for a 22 yard average and 41 punts for just under 10 a pop. Fast, but small. 5'9" 185 lbs. Not a big-time playmaker, but a little dangerous. But you don't wanna pay him, so you decide to let him walk.
Okay.
Then you watch the Super Bowl. And theeeeere goes that Bear and his 100 speed rating in Madden! Then you think of that guy in NO and think, "Maybe I could use a guy like that...."
Now here comes the draft. You need a QB. Badly. You're not gonna get The Big Kid. Not with Oakland at 1. You may not get The Domer. He wants to go to Cleveland. The next set of guys looks to go in the 2nd. You better take a good long look at those guys. And wow, you really like this kid from BYU. And according to some scouts, he could be something like the next good underrated QB. Score! (especially since the team passed an actual good underrated guy a few season ago) And as you're scouting the 2nd kids, the Domer's kinda unimpressive. You've got some issues with him. You're just not sold.
Meanwhile, you need a starter. Now you've got a Vet wants out and he'll only talk contract with you. Awesome. He'll be there for the next coupla years, you can get rid of The Knee, and then draft this Mormon kid in the 2nd and let him learn under the Vet. Sounds like a plan.
Now what to do with this #9 pick?
Hey! You need a WR who can return punts and kicks. There's a guy! He's kinda small, but then again, the guy you had in there who wore all green and kept blathering on about his po' o' gold! This new kid's HUGE compared to the other guy. You'll take him, and maybe he can be your Dolphin-Bear.
Now, the only question I have is "Couldn't you have traded down?" The next receiver wasn't taken until 23!
Bottom line, I can see where you're coming from, but still - geeze!
